John Northington cleverly blends his raw materials, concrete, metal and glass, into forms which look as they could have been parts of some great machines from a past industrial age, or objects abandoned from some sciences fiction wasteland, with a timeless quality.
On close study one sees very beautifully crafted and designed works of art, the materials superbly fused together, often with a concrete structure interlaced with metal and in particular with John’s innovative use of glass. All carefully thought out and balanced, and with a wonderful harmonious relationship between the different materials used….and as is often the case with works of art, what appears to be the casual or random is often the most complex, and sophisticated……
His finished pieces are to the eye very solid and at times brutal objects, but also can be very refined, bringing together two qualities which are extremely difficult to express and combine in art, delicacy and strength…
